happy birthday to myself
a little early, but I'm turning eighteen soon and I just bought myself Manners, Passion Pit's album.
it is amazing.
I've been hearing Paste Magazine's editors Josh Jackson and Nick Marino rave about this album for ages. I first heard "To Kingdom Come" on Paste Magazine's monthly sampler 55, and it easily became my favorite jam to study too. What I love about Passion Pit is that they are so folky, but what they are technically producing is dance music, killer beats, falsetto vocals and non-sensical lyrics. But their mentality and music could easily fit into my subversive indie folk/rock playlists of jenny owen youngs, she & him, animal collective, and wilco.
If you don't like folk music, check Passion Pit out. If you don't like dance music, check Passion Pit out. Manners refuses to fit into the boundaries of either genre and generally is just flat out good music.
